Dada Artists

Dada was a literary and artistic movement born in Europe at a time when the horror of World War I was being played out in what amounted to citizens' front yards. Dadaism concentrated its anti-war politics through a rejection of the prevailing standards in art through anti-art cultural works. Its purpose was to ridicule the meaninglessness of the modern world as its participants saw it. In addition to being anti-war, Dada was also anti-bourgeois and anarchistic in nature.
Dada artist Jean Arp made a collage by dropping pieces of paper on the floor, then pasting them on paper exactly as they’d fallen. Hannah Hoch, a German Dada artist’s made her famous Photo-Montage “Cut with a Kitchen Knife through the Beer-Belly of the Weimar Republic” in 1919, to criticize the Weimar Republic.
